Job Summary: The Director of Technology and Innovation serves as the district’s executive leader for educational technology, information technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation.  The Director develops and implements a comprehensive plan that supports all district activities and functions and advances teaching, learning, operations, and organizational effectiveness while ensuring secure, reliable, and equitable access to technology resources.

Working collaboratively with leadership, the Director aligns technology initiatives with the district’s strategic goals, supports instructional innovation, safeguards district information systems, and provides leadership in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the district Technology Strategic Plan and alignment with district goals.
      2. \r\n
    2. Serve as the district’s chief advisor regarding educational technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and technology infrastructure.
      3. \r\n
    3. Collaborate with district leadership to establish short- and long-range technology priorities.
      4. \r\n
    4. Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve student achievement and organizational effectiveness through appropriate technology tools and resources.
      5. \r\n
    5. Monitor emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that support teaching, learning, and operations.
      6. \r\n
    6. Represent the district at local, regional, state, and national technology organizations and professional learning events.

  2. Technology Infrastructure\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Direct the planning, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of all district technology systems.
      2. \r\n
    2. Oversee district networks, wireless infrastructure, servers, cloud services, telecommunications, classroom technology, and enterprise systems.
      3. \r\n
    3. Develop lifecycle replacement plans for hardware, software, and infrastructure.
      4. \r\n
    4. Ensure high availability, redundancy, disaster recovery, inventory controls, and business continuity for all technology systems.
      5. \r\n
    5. Develop and maintain district technology standards.
      6. \r\n
    6. Coordinate implementation of new technology systems.
      7. \r\n

    3. \r\n
  3. Cybersecurity and Data Privacy\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Lead the district’s cybersecurity program.
      2. \r\n
    2. Develop cybersecurity policies, procedures, and incident response plans.
      3. \r\n
    3. Coordinate cybersecurity awareness training for employees.
      4. \r\n
    4. Ensure compliance with FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, PPRA, Pennsylvania regulations, and other applicable privacy laws.
      5. \r\n
    5. Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments.
      6. \r\n
    6. Coordinate disaster recovery and continuity planning.
      7. \r\n
    7. Oversee identity management, access controls, and data governance.
      8. \r\n

    4. \r\n
  4. Artificial Intelligence Leadership\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Develop and maintain district guidelines for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.
      2. \r\n
    2. Lead district planning for AI implementation across instruction and operations.
      3. \r\n
    3. Evaluate AI tools for instructional, operational, and administrative use.
      4. \r\n
    4. Support ethical, equitable, and secure implementation of AI technologies.
      5. \r\n
    5. Provide leadership regarding AI literacy for staff and administrators.
      6. \r\n
    6. Monitor legal and regulatory developments regarding artificial intelligence.
      7. \r\n
    \r\n
    5. \r\n
  5. Instructional Technology Leadership\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Partner with curriculum leaders and instructional coaches to integrate technology into teaching and learning.
      2. \r\n
    2. Promote innovative instructional practices that improve student engagement and achievement.
      3. \r\n
    3. Support Learning Management Systems, digital curriculum resources, online learning platforms, and instructional applications.
      4. \r\n
    4. Evaluate educational software for instructional effectiveness, accessibility, interoperability, and data privacy.
      5. \r\n
    5. Ensure technology initiatives support Universal Design for Learning, digital citizenship, and accessibility standards.
      6. \r\n

  6. Professional Learning\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Develop a professional learning program, in alignment with the overall district comprehensive plan, related to educational technology.
      2. \r\n
    2. Provide leadership training for administrators regarding technology implementation.
      3. \r\n
    3. Coordinate technology integration coaching.
      4. \r\n
    4. Promote effective instructional practices through modeling, coaching, and professional development.
      5. \r\n
    5. Support onboarding and induction of new employees.
      6. \r\n
    \r\n
    7. \r\n
  7. Technology Operations\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Develop annual technology budgets and update future forecasts on an ongoing basis.
      2. \r\n
    2. Administer E-rate planning and compliance.
      3. \r\n
    3. Oversee technology purchasing and vendor management.
      4. \r\n
    4. Maintain district technology inventories and asset management systems.
      5. \r\n
    5. Coordinate software licensing and contract renewals.
      6. \r\n
    6. Establish service standards for technology support.
      7. \r\n
    7. Analyze technology usage data to improve services.
      8. \r\n

    8. \r\n
  8. Leadership and Supervision\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Supervise technology department personnel.
      2. \r\n
    2. Conduct employee evaluations.
      3. \r\n
    3. Establish department goals and performance expectations.
      4. \r\n
    4. Foster a collaborative, customer-service-oriented department culture.
      5. \r\n
    5. Coordinate work with instructional technology personnel, curriculum leaders, business office staff, building administrators, and external partners.

  9. Communication\r\n
      \r\n
    1. Communicate technology initiatives to the Board of School Directors, administrators, faculty, students, families, and community.
      2. \r\n
    2. Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations regarding district technology initiatives.

    3. Promote transparency regarding technology projects, cybersecurity awareness, and digital innovation.

  10. Additional Responsibilities\r\n

    1. Respond to technology emergencies outside normal work hours.
